According to Ethnologue 2014, Mandarin/Chinese is the top widely spoken language in the world, with over one billion speakers from China, Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia. This is followed by Spanish, spoken by around 400 million people, predominantly in the Americas and Spain. English trails in third place, with 335 million speakers, mainly in United Kingdom, United States, Canada, Australia, Ireland and New Zealand.

In Malaysia, the official language is Bahasa Malaysia (Malay), widely spoken by approximately 20 Million Malays, which make up 67% of Malaysia population. English remains active as second language, widely used in business and social activities. Mandarin spoken by around 8 Million of Malaysian as their mother language.
